The Majority Tru Bio earbuds are a step in the right direction to
reducing e-waste! Unlike most earbuds on the market, the Majority Tru
Bio is about 80% biodegradable - the charging case, earbuds and drivers are made of
cellulose bioplastic which is compostable - meaning if you chuck them
in a compost bin they will break down and decompose into compost just
like a banana peel.
The
Tru Bio charging case is long (length wise) but has a narrow
slim frame that makes it easy to slip in and out of a small trouser pocket.
The Tru Bio case measures 8cm long x 3.5cm wide x 3.5cm thick and weighs
41 grams. The
charging port is rear facing and the base is flat, allowing you to
keep the charging case upright on a desk. The case lid is one of those that
wobble but it is magnetized so, it closes shut securely.
The earbuds weigh 4.5 grams each and are
super easy to remove from the case, thanks to the spacious docking
area. Simply pinch them with two fingers and out they come! As
far as fit and comfort, it's a 50/50 split - mainly due to the standard
eartips included which are made of regular thick rubber. When using quality 3rd
party eartips, you can improve the fit tenfold. The comfort is overall
good though - feels like you're not wearing them at all.
Pairing is easy, although you have to take the earbuds out of the
case in order to connect them. You can switch between for mono or stereo
listening. Another
key selling point for the Majority Tru Bio is no touch controls.
Instead, the Try Bio uses physical button controls with a loud clicky
actuation.
Depending on your needs, button controls on earbuds can be an
advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage is being able to control
the earbuds with gloves and, not having to worry about accidental
touches. The downside is having to jam the earbuds into the ear canal
when pressing the buttons.
Despite the lack of
mobile app support, the Tru Bio earbuds are equipped with all functions
you would ever desire, namely power on/off, calls
(answer/end/reject), play/pause, skip tracks next/previous and volume
up/down. No mobile app support means, you cannot remap button functions and, you have no access to native sound equalization.
As
far as battery performance, the Majority Tru Bio earbuds and charging
case take 1 hour to charge with quick charge support (2 hours from just
30 minutes charging). At 60% volume, you can achieve around 6.5 hours
playtime. The charging case holds an extra 18 hours of power - enough to
recharge the earbuds 3 times over. At about 25% battery, you will hear a
low battery alert to let you know it's time to charge the earbuds.
The low battery alert cannot be disabled and does not go away, which
can be annoying.
In the audio/sound department, the
Majority Tru Bio earbuds 13mm drivers deliver clear sound with plenty of
volume and focus on the midrange (vocal/instruments). The bass sound isn't as dynamically
present as expected, which could be down to the cellulose construction
or sound tuning (or both). The microphone sound performance is below
average - okay for the odd call here and there - but lacking voice amplification and adequate noise suppression.
The Majority Tru Bio earbuds have a "budget"
price tag so, they are relatively affordable to buy. That said, Tru Bio
faces stiff competition due to similar offerings featuring active noise
cancellation (ANC) and low latency game mode.
