1MORE Aero Review ANC Earbuds With Transparency & Wind Noise Reduction

Friday, January 06, 2023

An aerodynamic set of comfortable earbuds that you can wear for long periods for work and light exercise! 1MORE's new Aero earbuds feature ANC (active noise cancellation) for audio listening, as well as a noise cancelling microphones to reduce background noise during calls.

The Aero earbuds have a similar design to the 1MORE ComfoBuds with a long pointy stem (2.5cm long) and smooth matte plastic finish throughout. The nozzle has a short neck with a wide mouth protected by a red mesh guard and silicone tip. Most pod stem style earbuds don't usually have silicone eartips, making it a good selling point for Aero.

Because of the short nozzle, the Aero earbuds sit on the outer canal so, they feel more comfortable on the ears than standard in-ear earbuds, which typically fit deep inside the ear canal. The included silicone eartips are nice too. They are custom ones with integrated mesh guard.

The Aero charging case has a unique lid opening design that makes it stand out from other true wireless charging cases. Aero also has a smooth pebble shape that is easy to slide in and out of a trouser pocket. Removing the earbuds from the case is super easy, thanks to the spacious docking area. Dimensions of the case are 6cm long x 5.5cm wide x 2.5cm thick and 4 grams weight. The Aero earbuds weigh 5 grams each.

From the Aero earbuds, you can control calls (answer/end), voice assistant, play/pause, skip tracks (next/previous), volume up/down and toggle between ANC mode and ambient (transparency) mode.  However, you only get two gestures (double tap and triple tap) per earbud so you can only control up to 3 functions, including calls. Oddly, there is no single tap gesture nor long press like you get with the 1MORE ComfoBuds Pro

You also have the option to disable the ANC and ambient mode, as well as adjust the sensitivity of the ANC from 3 levels: strong, medium and adaptive (automatic mode). There is a wind noise reduction mode too, which works really well at attenuating wind noise.

The ANC performance of Aero is very good, being able to significantly reduce traffic noise and people chatter (e.g. in a noisy restaurant) . Transparency mode works well too. It isn't adjustable but good enough for situational awareness and talking to people without having to remove the earbuds from the ears.

The 1MORE Aero earbuds charging time is 1 hour, while the charging case takes 2 hours to charge. With ANC OFF and 50% volume, you can achieve a playtime of around 6.5 hours and 4.5 hours with ANC ON. The Aero charging case can hold approximately 19 hours of extra charge - enough for 3 full charges. The Aero charging case can be charged via a wireless charger (within 2 hours).

Another key feature you get with the 1MORE Aero earbuds is head tracked spatial audio - same feature found on Apple's AirPods. The Aero earbuds has sensors built-in to detect your head movement and adjust the audio so, it sounds like it's coming from the opposite direction your head is pointing. Head tracked spatial audio is a bit like surround sound but more dynamic because the audio adapts based on your head movement.

Spatial audio head tracking feels more realistic than fixed spatial stereo audio especially when listening to Dolby Atmos songs. As far as its implementation, Aero's head tracking 3D audio has been implemented adequately to make it a cool feature, especially for those who haven't experienced it before. Would have been neat if 1MORE made spatial stereo audio an option as well.

Pairing/connection to a phone is easy. Opening the charging case triggers automatic bluetooth pairing, which allows you to keep the earbuds connected to your phone, while inside the charging case. You can seamlessly switch between earbuds for mono listening without any re-connection delay.

Mobile app support is also included with the Aero earbuds. The 1MORE Music app is easy to use and doesn't require an account registration. The 1MORE app has a clean user interface, showing battery level for each earbud and case. You can activate ANC and Ambient sound from the app too, as well as enable spatial audio and access EQ preset sounds.
