Unihertz Tank Phone Review Night Vision Powerbank & 1200 Lumen Flashlight
Friday, December 23, 2022A sizeable beefy super smartphone, for all intents and purposes -
equipped with a super bright 12,000 lumens flashlight and massive
powerbank with 22,000 mAh battery capacity!
Unihertz
Tank has a metal frame, a plastic back panel and textured plastic
buttons. The bottom side, top side and corners are reinforced with thick
rubber, including the bottom backside, which integrates a rubberized
anchor point to hook/clip a lanyard. Dimensions of
Tank are 18cm long x 9cm wide x 2.7cm thick. The weight is 560 grams.
Tank's Panda glass display has a punch hole 32MP selfie camera
offset to the left side, which is a more popular design than the classic
notch camera design. The rear facing 1.5W mono speaker sounds good,
although feels under-powered for the size of the phone.
The speaker
location is unusual since most most smartphones speakers are located on
the
bottom side of the phone, next to the charging port. That said, Tank's
rear speaker does not get blocked, thanks to the raised anchor
point for the lanyard which prevents the speaker vents from
being muffled when resting against a desk. If the phone is resting on a
bed, the bed
sheets can potetially muffle the speaker vents though.
Unihertz Tank's charging is located on the bottom side, next to a 3.5mm audio port - both protected by a thick rubber cover to protect against water and dust. The charging/audio port protective rubber cover is useful; however, it is not hinged so, you cannot swivel the rubber cover out of the way when charging. This is an issue because the rubber cover gets bent backwards when the charging cable is inserted. Overtime, the rubber gets deformed and will not properly seal the charging port.

108MP camera
Unihertz Tank thick square frame allows you to set the
phone upright on its side - something you cannot do with regular
smartphones - giving you the possibility of taking photos and capture
video hands-free.
32MP infrared camera
Speaking of cameras, Tank is equipped with an 108MP
camera, which performs well in low light/night time conditions, as well
as a dedicated night infrared 20MP camera for night vision. Unihertz Tank camera has a
digital zoom with a longer zoom range than the Jelly 2E smartphone. Check out the embedded video for camera performance tests. Also, time-lapse is not supported in night-vision mode
The
Unihertz Tank built-in microphone has a high volume amplification so,
your voice gets picked up loud and clear without having to speak loudly
into the phone. The pickup sound is natural too, and features noise
filtration to remove background noise naturally without affecting the
quality of the call.
A few other eye catching specs are found under the hood. The Tank phone features 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage and an Octa Core 2.2GHz CPU - the same processor found on the Sony Xperia 8/Xperia 10 and vivo Y89/Z1 Lite phones. The Octa Core 2.2GHz processor is a powerhouse, allowing you to multitask efficiently, run heavy apps, video editing and gaming.
With 8GB RAM, the Unihertz Tank is future-proof for a future years. 8GB RAM is more than plenty for web browsing, social media, video streaming, and heavy mobile gaming. Most
popular new release games will run without any issues. The 256GB internal storage capacity is plenty too, for storing photos, videos and music offline. There is no micro SD external storage support like with Jelly 2E.
One of Tank's main features is a camping flashlight rated at 1200 lumens with 4 modes: off mode, high mode, low mode and strobe mode. Tank's camping flashlight performs well; however, Tank isn't as versatile as an Anduril flashlight, which feature cool functions such as beacon, lighting storm mode, muggle mode, turbo mode and momentary switch mode.
Tank's 1200
lumen camping flashlight has a floodlight beam. You can see it in action
tested against the Archer
300 lumen throw bike torch from the embedded video on the Gadget
Explained B-roll YouTube channel.
In
terms of battery performance, the internal battery can power the
camping light for 6 hours straight. Call time is around 6 days.
Charging time with the included 66 watt charger is 4 hours. Via a 10
watt charger, it takes 9 hours and via a 100 watt charger, it takes just
2.5 hours to fully charge Unihertz Tank.
