Vankyo Leisure 470 Pro Review 1080p Projector With Phone Screen Casting
Tuesday, August 23, 2022The Vankyo Leisure 470 Pro is a
versatile projector that you can use to stream from your PC, games
console and smartphone. It supports native 1080p resolution, which means
you can connect the Leisure 470 Pro projector to a 1080p (or 1080i)
input source.
The Vankyo Leisure 470 Pro comes equipped with a textured plastic focus ring
mechanism that lets you manually focus the lens and make the image sharper. The
manual focus mechanism works by rotating the ring clockwise or anticlockwise to push the lens in and out of
the projector. When twisted all the way out, the lens sticks out of the
projector housing about 5mm.
Speaking of focus, the Leisure 470 Pro is
capable of projecting onto a maximum distance of 25 feet (7.7 meters)
down to 4.5 feet (1.3 meters). The Vankyo Leisure 470 Pro is a 1-chip LCD projector with and LED lamp
source capable of 170 ANSI lumens, which isn't very bright but works good
enough in a room with moderate ambient light so, you aren't restricted
to a pitch black room which gives you the best performance.
You can also
adjust brigthness and color temperature too, just like with a TV so,
you get plenty of ways to tweak the image to look better. Be sure to
check out the video below to see a walk-through and projection
test of the Leisure 470 Pro projector.
The Vankyo Leisure 470
Pro is a mains powered only projector, which means it must be plugged
into a wall socket at all times. The Leisure 470 Pro projector weighs
972 grams and measures 19cm long, 14.5cm deep and 7.5cm high. The
Leisure 470 Pro tall boxy frame is made of hard plastic and integrates
physical clicky hard plastic buttons for controlling the projector.
As well as a focus ring, the Leisure 470
Pro has a keystone ring for vertical keystone correction to correct the
vertical angle of the image. There is also a 3 watt speaker built-in and
various connectivity ports: two HDMI ports, one USB port, one auxiliary
port (audio out), one AV input and micro SD card slot. On the base
of the projector, there are four feet (for elevation), anti vibration
pads (2mm thick), a tripod mount and a long thumbscrew that is able to
raise the front of the projector up to 10cm high.
Potential deal breakers
- Does not accept 4K input source but, you can playback 4k content via the HDMI port
- No autofocus. Automatic focusing is convenient because it is done automaticlaly by the projector, using a motor and an ultrasonic rangefinding sensor to measure the distance to the screen and adjust the focus accordingly.
- Cannot use the plastic lens cover when the lens is turned all the way out
- No horizontal/ 4 point keystone correction, which is ideal when projecting at an awkward angle or in a room with limited space
- The vertical correction angle is limited to -15 degrees and +15 degrees. With some projectors you get up to 40 degrees vertical keystone correction
- Mono speaker
- Mains powered only - no rechargeable battery built-in
- IR remote batteries not included
- No AV cables included for AV connection
- Image can look washed out and dim at longer distances. The optimal projection distance is about 50 inches in low light
- No way to view the led lamp working time
- The led lamp has a short lifespan (10,000 hours runtime)
- No bluetooth functionality - no bluetooth speaker mode
- Cannot be connected to external bluetooth speakers
- Has to be connected to an external source to work, unlike an Android projector with built-in apps
- Uses HDMI 1.4 which only supports 4k 30fps; whereas HDMI 2.0 supports 4k 60fps, which delivers much better picture and audio quality.
