iStorage diskAshur DT2 Hard Drive PIN Authentication And Hardware Encryption

Wednesday, October 24, 2018

Taking forward the concept of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) where in order to withdraw money from a bank card you must enter the correct PIN, the iStorage diskAshur DT2 lets you encode and withdraw data safely via PIN authentication!
The diskAshur DT2 desktop hard drive comes with up to 12TB storage capacity and features USB 3.1 fast data transfer speeds of up to 200 MBps/Read and 200 MBps/Write), as well as real-time AES 256-bit hardware encryption that integrates XTS block cipher mode which provides full disk encryption.

diskAshur DT2 is cross-platform, just like the diskAshur 2 version, so the diskAshur DT2 hard drive works across all operating systems including all versions of Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, Chrome, and server-connected fan-less computers such as Thin Clients and Zero Clients.
diskAshur DT2 is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1
On top of the hard drive casing you find three led status indicators which can flash red (standby state/locked), green (User mode/unlocked) and blue (Admin mode). There is also an alphanumeric keypad with a lock key, an unlock key and a shift key that lets you lock and unlock the hard drive manually.
The tactile keypad, which has an anti-fingerprint epoxy coating, lets you access the drive with your own unique 7 to 15 digit PIN which if entered incorrectly five times consecutively will place the hard drive into a waiting (deadlock) state. Once the deadlock frozen state is initiated, the diskAshur DT2 can only restart through a ‘Power On’ Reset procedure (i.e. power off/power on). On the fifteenth consecutive incorrect PIN entry, the diskAshur DT2 accepts it is under attack and will erase the data stored on the drive.
diskAshur DT2 features rubberized and metallic construction with a subtle, understated design with cooling vents on both sides. On the rear of the drive, you find a USB 3.1 port, DC power socket, ON/OFF switch and a kensington desk lock socket.
Internally, the diskAshur DT2 houses a secure microprocessor with Common Criteria certification tested at Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 4+ready which is the highest assurance level consisting of complicated AES-keywrapping and FIPS PUB 197 validated encryption algorithms that encrypt both the data and the encryption key.
diskAshur DT2 is externally fortified and internally too so anyone trying to tamper, brute-force attack it or break into the diskAshur DT2 will be met with a frozen deadlock state, which is a clever bit of concurring computing that literary freezes or places the diskAshur DT2 in a "waiting state" when malicious automated attacks are detected such as firmware modifications through BadUSB techniques which is a type of rooting attack hackers use to jailbreak iPhones.
As the Admin/owner of the diskAshur DT2, you can create/delete multiple users, setup read-only admins/users or even assign admins with the same privileges as you. You can also create a self-destruct PIN that you can enter to perform a factory reset on the entire drive. The diskAshur DT2 is truly stuff that dreams are made of!
There is also a way for you to protect the diskAshur DT2 hard drive against unauthorised access by automatically locking the drive after a pre-set amount of time you can set between 5 minutes and 99 minutes. The reset feature on the iStorage diskAshur DT2 is neat too because it can be carried out as many times you want to allow you to create a new randomly generated encryption key that clears all PINs and data.
With security devices such as the diskAshur DT2, you always want to look for official recognition  that the security device is qualified to perform securely particularly when sensitive data is being handled.
In the case of the diskAshur DT2, you get data assurance as diskAshur DT2 complies with the Guide to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) so iStorage cannot misuse your data since non-compliance can cost iStorage dearly.
There is also quality assurance you get with the diskAshur DT2 drive in the form of cyber security certification from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) which is a renowned UK government accreditation difficult to obtain. This means that the diskAshur DT2 hardware has been tested and approved by the National Cyber Security Centre.
DiskAshur DT2 has also been accredited by the Netherlands National Communications Security Agency (NLNCSA) through the rigorous Baseline Security Product Assessment (BSPA) test, as well as being certified to NATO Restricted level as a NATO approved product. diskAshur DT2 hard drive also has Level 3 validation from the U.S. government computer security standard Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 140-2, (FIPS PUB 140-2).
