Quadcopter drones seem to be everywhere but I haven't come across an aerial camera drone that can do super fast forward flight, let alone break the 100 km/h (60 mph) barrier. This multirotor drone, which goes by the name of X PlusOne, can essentially fly twice as fast as a traditional quadcopter drone. The X PlusOne is certainly going to completely add a new dimension to drone hovering and RC airplane flying as we know it because of its two flying modes. The XPlusOne can hover as well as fly at high speed flight from its fixed wing. Can you imagine taking aerial shots at 100 km/h?
Seeing the flight test video below, you can see the X PlusOne being able to smoothly take off, hover, and land like a traditional quadcopter as well as being able to self-stabilize in both hover and forward flight modes by transitioning between the two at the flip of a switch. What allows the X PlusOne to pitch over 90 degrees and fly nose-first at over 60 mph (100 km/h) is the upward facing wing in place of the quadcopter frame. The total dimension of this drone/aircraft hybrid is 32.5 x 19 x 14 inches and weighs just under 3 lbs. I can already see the military using this technology to create a new breed of armed mini drones as well as up-scaling the technology to a full on aircraft for the Marines!
Take a look at the video below of the X PlusOne's hovering and fast forward flight potential:
